Marvel College AU RP Group
The group will focus on Marvel characters meeting in an Alternate Universe while attending University. Before they were heroes, before they were villains, they had to learn. The Alternate Universe definition means that you may take a marvel character and completely change it to suit your style. Beast could run a pet store, Wolverine could be studying to be a kindergarten teacher, and Mystique could want to be an actress. These are just some examples.
Original Characters are also welcome, but must adhere to the same rules as the Marvel characters.
This is a MARVEL college, and DC characters will not be accepted. The character can either be altered to better represent an OC, or we can refer you to a DC College.
The characters will fit in with the college universe and will interact with each other in realistic ways; sharing dormitories, attending class, completing assessments for the Faculty.
A List of every character currently active will be kept, and with every new member that joins, or member that leaves, the list will be updated. If a character is inactive for a period of time, their writer will be contacted and certain actions taken. For more information, please see #InactivityRule.
Group Rules
Your character can be a student, a teacher, a cheerleader, a football player, etc. As long as it fits within the universe, we are open to anything. Use your imagination!
Please remember to follow the @College_AU account with your writer account (if you have one) or another account, as we will be posting all notices on this account.
#CharacterChoice
If a character is taken then you cannot pick them. There will be no duplicate characters, like 3 Loki’s or 6 Tony Stark's in the college. A list will be provided of the active members, and a search function for Marvel Wiki if you wish to find another character. If you do have any questions about your character choice and adapting them into the #CollegeAU, please feel free to DM us.
#NSFWandAgeResponsibilities
NSFW posts are fine if you are over 18 and you state so in the characters bio. Please remember to be honest with your fellow writers about your age in RL when choosing to write certain scenes (sexual). If you are underage, that’s fine, but respect your writing partner and tell them. This is for legal reasons. The #CollegeAU Moderators do not condone/endorse underage sex.
#TriggerWarnings
Using trigger warnings within SL is allowed, as long as it is handled carefully. Some SL themes may affect other writers in the group in a variety of ways and we only ask that this is approached cautiously by clearly stating at the start of a scene if it contains anything that can be seen as a trigger warning. This includes, but is not restricted to: self harm, drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence, extreme cases of violence and even character deaths.
#AccountApproval
Please remember to send a message the @College_AU account before entering. Moderators will look over the account, and the biography supplied, then approve new characters to enter the AU. We will also ask that the hashtag #CollegeAU be entered into the bio once the account is approved. We are not trying to be strict, or censor your character, but we do like to ensure characters are made correctly and here for the right reasons.
#Following
Please follow all characters in the College!AU group and try to interact with all members at some point. The joy of a college universe is that there are thousands of reasons to interact with other characters even in small ways. We do run a list of players on this moderator account. Please make sure that you follow the list and all members linked to it. We try to update this every day with new members as it will help you interact with all #CollegeAU players.
#UnfollowingRule
In the instance where players do not get along, or there are issues behind the scenes, we accept that all writers hold the right to unfollow one another and their characters. We do not wish for writers to feel uncomfortable in any way on the TL and if the unfollowing another character removes the source of friction then we accept this. However, we ask that unfollowing one another is seen as a last resort in a dispute, and in all scenarios we will encourage private conversation in DMs between the writers. Under no circumstances do we wish to see any open dispute on the TL between writers, and Moderators will intervene if this is the case.
If unfollowing is the only agreed option to solve a dispute, we ask that it is done civilly and without bringing any discord onto the TL. We also request that accounts to not block one another. This is because while some writers do not get along, everyone will still interact and some accounts may need to check on SLs you are writing to know what is going on and to stay up to date. Blocking other players will NOT be tolerated, neither will unfollowing characters without the consent of the Moderators. We wish all our writers to be happy in this group and will take all necessary steps to ensure this.
#TwitlongerBio
Your characters first post should be a biography written in twitlonger or a similar program. This biography should establish your character as they are right now, entering the CollegeAU. By this we mean:
- How is he/she different to Canon Marvel?
- What powers, if any, do they have?
- What is their history? Eg: If Magneto was never in a concentration camp, what did he do or where does he come from?
- Have you added anything to the character?
We also recommend including the link to this twitlonger into the web address in your twitter bio.
#Harassment
Do not be rude to other players. This is essential. We are forming this RP group to have fun and if we hear/see anyone creating needless drama or hurting other writers, we as the creators of this group, will ban the offending writer/character.
#Superpowers/Abilities:
Characters are more then welcome to have their powers and abilities. However, we do ask that within Marvel University or on Campus, unless decided upon for an SL, powers are not used. Think of it like Harry Potter; no magic unless in class, or trying to save the Philosophers Stone. If a character uses their abilities against yours, without permission, please contact the Moderators in DMs.
#Timezones:
The Marvel University is in New York State, so you could use EST as a universal time zone for playing. However, we don't insist on using this. There are players from across the world involved in the AU and it would just exclude them or make things difficult for them due to different time zones. We advise, instead, to set up plays for times that benefit all players involved. You can even add your time zone to your bio to make things more accessible.
#InactivityRule
We understand that you cannot play on your account constantly. We all have RL to tend to, along with other RP accounts. However, if an account is inactive consistently for 2 weeks or more, we will DM and ask if they wish to continue with the character. We will wait a further week for a reply before we will make this character available for new players. We don't want to reserve roles (particularly popular ones) when the writer dedicated to it is not willing to contribute. If you plan on being hiatus (for example, a holiday, RP break, etc) and will be coming back to the character, that is fine. We just ask that you DM us and post a tweet to ensure that your role is safe.
#PublicActivity
We understand that over time certain friendship groups and relationships form between characters who connect and we encourage that interaction. We are also aware that many characters choose to interact in DMs and through joint writing in programs such as GoogleDocs for either SL or privacy reasons. We don't mind seeing this happen and reading the collaborated docs is enjoyable for all members, but we do ask that you do not restrict your character by keeping them in DM and GoogleDocs interactions. We have seen some members do this and it has raised concerns over exclusivity and this is not something that we condone. While this can be a temporary way of putting a character at rest during a busy RL period, it should not be used as a permanent character state. Please ensure that your character is active on the TL and available for scenes with all players.
#Multiverse
We understand that some players wish to have only the one account to avoid multiples (for example, the V1, V2, etc listed in bios) however we would ask that in the instance of #CollegeAU that you do create a separate account. This is to make it easier, to ensure that all players are interacting with the correct people and keeping it as a separate AU to other TLs. Having the #CollegeAU in your bio separates this from other scenarios and we hope that you can understand this.
#LeavingTheGroup
In the event that you chose to leave the group, please take the courtesy to allow all timezones to be aware of the information. The Moderators are in the same timezone, we work full time and may only be able to check this account once per day. If you DM us and it takes us 12 hours to reply, don’t just change your account and start playing in another group. Wait until the announcement of “@[username] has decided to withdraw from the group” has been posted as a public tweet so that all characters are aware.
Considering how long some members take to respond to the DMs that we send, this isn’t unreasonable. 1 day. Wait 24 hours from sending your DM before making any changes to your account. If you change the character before we can make the announcement, how do we know who is leaving? Another request is that you finish your ongoing scenes where possible, or at least send DMs to characters you play closely with to advise that you are leaving the group. It is horrible to learn so publicly that you’ve lost a friend, so think of others as you would expect to be treated. Do not just unfollow people or block them seconds after sending a closing statement.
Other notes:
There are many things to do in a college, not just studying (I bet some students, especially Tony Stark, will agree with that!) There are clubs, gyms, bars, sport, and parties... many activities, you can choose whatever you want to do! Since the group was begun, many students have formed clubs and arranged a wide range of social and academic events. There is always a new way to have fun!
Also, the moderators of the #CollegeAU are people too. We have life, jobs etc and if we don't reply to yours tweets or DMs right away, it only means that we're busy but we will get back to you! This moderator account is checked daily by all moderators, so there will always be an answer within the period of a day. This also goes to new applicants as well - do not worry, we will confirm characters being accepted quickly so that you can start playing in the #CollegeAU.
As always, never hesitate to DM/tweet us with your question/comments/requests. We are a friendly group of moderators and we look forward to having lots of fun with all of you! :-)
